Introduction

What is BRE?

A Business Rule Engine (BRE) is a software system that executes one or more business rules in a runtime environment. Business rules are logical statements that define or constrain some aspects of business and are typically used to ensure that business processes are carried out in a consistent and automated manner.

What does it do?

Rules are User-defined custom criteria which trigger sending Alert or Notification, either through On-Screen Display and/or an E-mail. These trigger help the user be informed about changes to data.

Where does BRE apply?

  • In R2 Core, this could be about changes pertaining to an Order, Non-availability of an Item etc.

  • In R2 Labor, this could relate to notifying a set of users about a labor position being modified.

  • In R2 CRM, this can help setup rule about informing some users about Creation of a Order or Opportunity, or changes in status of PO (like approved, pending).

What are the benefits to the user?

  • Reduces manual monitoring and intervention.

  • Precision in Execution: Ensures conditions are checked precisely as defined

  • The cleaner user interface to enhance usability.

  • Can be tailored to different business needs

By leveraging a BRE, businesses can ensure that such rules are consistently applied, making the decision process more efficient and reliable.
